Happy October! This is my favorite month for a number of reasons – football, fall, my birthday, my favorite holiday (Halloween) and…drumroll please…the last days of working on my book until it goes off to press! EEEEE! This is crazy. Crazy, I tell you.
Here’s what’s happened since we last talked: I got a big heavy stack of paper in the mail from the publisher (aka the fully designed proof copy of the book) and had about two weeks to provide my final edits by hand.
All in all, I was absolutely thrilled and blown-away with how the design turned out! You can see for yourself in some pictures I uploaded here. (Pretty cool – the book will actually be printed in two colors so it will have red highlights throughout.)
I’m sure I will annoy the publisher and designer immensely with my many red mark-ups (hey, I wasn’t an editor-in-chief of my high school newspaper for nothin!), but I really want this book to be the very best it can be. I’m a perfectionist and I can’t help it! Given that I’ve been working on this thing – my baby – for 2+ years, it feels surreal to be down to the final two weeks of having a say. The next time I get to see it at the end of October it will be a PDF and we will do one last check for major errors. (Side note: huge thanks to my dad, who pored over the book for 25 hours with his editing hawk eye!)
In other exciting news — I got an offer for the book from Random House Korea!!! Eve Ellenbogen, Life After College is coming your way 🙂 Once Running Press signed on, my literary agent was able to start shopping the book to her foreign agent contacts. As Elisa said, “Two countries – you’ve now gone international.” I like the sound of that! From what I hear, most of the foreign deals happen after the book has been successful in the U.S. – so I will be curious to see where things go from here.
